it seems to be forgetting true grit, and id say movies like Tron have a better Best pic chance than letters from juliett, thanks for the updates!
ReplyDeleteClayton's been getting that a lot. It's his call, but I'll just say that it's so early on, we shouldn't be too worried about any exclusions yet. Once contenders start dropping, it'll likely show up.
ReplyDeleteNo love for Stone? I know it has an early release, but a Norton-DeNiro combination is hard to resist.
ReplyDeleteIf it gets good reactions, I'm sure it'll pop up...
ReplyDeleteInteresting to see no contenders from "The Ghost Writer"----didn't it just win the top prize at the Berlin Film Festival?
ReplyDeleteMy review of it will be up on the next update, but while it's very good, it's not going to get any nominations.
ReplyDeleteWoo hoo! Awesome
ReplyDeleteI'm really pulling for Inception this year. I'm refusing to watch anymore trailers or read anything about it (ha, good luck) until its released. I still don't know hardly what it's about, but I know that the trailers really intrigued me, and Christopher Nolan is behind it. Excellent.
Call it a hunch, but if there's any single change I would make, I think The Social Network will be nominated for Best Picture. You have the directing talents of David Fincher, and the script-writing talents of Aaron Sorkin (in my opinion one of the best writers in Hollywood just based off his work on The West Wing alone).
Still, a great read, and an early guide to another great year at the movies!
I'm about to start reading the script for The Social Network, so we shall see soon, hopefully.
ReplyDeleteI wasn't as in love with The Social Network script as most.
ReplyDeleteGood to know.
ReplyDeleteand no Nigel, The Ghost Writer did not win the top prize at Berlin, a film called Bal did...
ReplyDeleteWow, already? Lol, hey I am already excited now too lol. Just one question, in comparison, if you guys started this early last year, how many nominations did actually stick so I may have an idea of what I should be really watching and what's dvd material. Hey tickets are getting pricy specially with this 3d bs coming from everywhere lol. I already like Tree of Life, Get Low, and some other here and there movies.
ReplyDeleteWe did star this early last year, and The Hurt Locker, An Education, Precious, and Up were what we were predicting by the time the summer came for Best Picture. Director we had Bigelow and Daniels early on. Actor we had Morgan Freeman since February and Jeremy Renner by May, with Clooney by the end of the summer. Supporting Actor we had Damon and Tucci in May. Christopher Plummer very early, and Waltz by the summer. Actress we had Carey Mulligan and Meryl Streep from the beginning and Sidibe shortly after. Supporting Actress we had Cruz and Mo'Nique from the very beginning. Screenplays we had The Hurt Locker and Up from the beginning and An Education early on.
ReplyDeleteAs for this year, it's really too early to tell, but we usually end up pretty on the ball, so it's always good to pay heed to Clayton's picks. We all ended up being right about The Hurt Locker before almost anyone else, so this year...who knows?
1) Thanks Clayton, for be one of the few gurus that to get early predictions!
ReplyDelete2) As I was expecting 2 of my fav actors are in it... Di Caprio and Depp... let see what happened they both deserve it!
3)Julian Moore yes !! say no more...
4) I wish I could see more films like the runaways, winters bone, the kids are all right, Fair Game, among the best pic predix.
good job !
Just out of curiousity, what were the 5 films Clayton first picked last year?
