Armond White gets himself banned from an early screening of 'Greenberg'...

...supposedly because he's been vocally aggressive towards writer/director Noah Baumbach as a person (besides hating his films). It's a bizarre thing, and the whole article can be found here, but I wanted to see what everyone thinks of this. I'm always careful to be respectful of filmmakers, but does a lack of respect warrant this? I'm not sure (I'll write more in the comments section)...
-Thoughts?

  1. Here's the thing...as a critic I hate the idea of being banned from anything for what I write, but on the other hand, White often does this on purpose, and if he's gone to attacking the filmmaker outside of reviews and not for simply making movies he hasn't enjoyed, then I tend to be more conflicted about this...

  2. Mr. White is a renowned prick, and more than a few of his comments regarding Baumbach have been way out of line. I gotta support the filmmakers here. There's no reason they should have to put up with it.

  3. Indeed. The only thing holding me back is that I don't want to be considered a hypocrite if I ever get overly aggressive about a person, since film can do that to you.

  4. That being said, what White said is completely reprehensible, any way you slice it...

  5. Good for Baumbach.

Let White see it with the general public. Don't do any favors for him.

  6. He's seeing it at an early screening still, he just won't be among the critics at the "first" NY press screening.
