Since this time of year is full of Bruce Willis and 'Die Hard' mentions, here's his latest cop flick, directed by Kevin Smith!

What used to be called 'A Couple of Dicks' is now 'Cop Out' and has been referred to as Kevin Smith as "Die Hard with 60% less action". Take a gander and see if it works for you:

  1. I think it looks pretty entertaining, though it's obvious that Kevin Smith didn't write this. That being said, I like the looks of it, the cast beyond Willis and Morgan is very solid, and I'll definitely be seeing it next year...

  2. I love SModcast and the "Evening With" shows, but I've never been a huge fan of his films; don't know why. I'm a bigger fan of the man than the filmmaker. I'll probably go and see this, but I don't know if I'll like it. I'll probably enjoy hearing Smith talk about this film more than the film itself.

  3. I'm a SModcast and "Evening With" junkie (I saw him at Carnegie Hall do a show this year), but I love most of his films as well...that being said, the man is wonderful to talk to in person too, just like doing a SMod with him...

  4. On this film though, I like giving Willis a more humorous bent to the cop genre, since when he does serious ones not named Die Hard, they tend to feel like lesser works...

  5. Like I said before, I saw this earlier this year, and it was, in my opinion, very disappointing.

I am a humongous Kevin Smith fan. I love most of his films (the exception being "Jersey Girl", and I do know that you like it Joey, lol). I love his Evening With series, and I also saw him live a little earlier this year. I haven't actually listened to any SModcasts, though, which is strange.

All in all, this film fails in a lot of ways because of the writing. The plot is way too predictable, which - in a way - isn't necessarily a bad thing. Also, before I saw it, I didn't dislike or necessarily like Tracy Morgan. After I came out of the film, I know that I don't like him; there's a lot of dead moments that I didn't laugh at - most of which were his fault - because he can't act.

Also, no matter what you change the title to, it's going to sound terrible in comparison to the original title. Oh well, at least it's better than "A Couple of Cops".

And by the way, Smith always says the film has 60% LESS action than the first "Lethal Weapon". There joke therein is that there's not much action in it to begin with...

  6. I'm not expecting a brilliant film, just something enjoyable. We'll see...

  7. Oh, I haven't heard him say it the other way...

I understand where you're coming from, but I wasn't expecting that either. I was just expecting a really funny buddy cop movie which is spoof-like in patches.

  8. Saw him recently at my school actually. Not looking forward to this but I feel compelled to see it because it's kevin smith. not a big fan of bruce or tracy.

  9. He has that effect. It's like a friend of yours who makes films. You'll see them regardless of your interest because you want to support him. I happen to love 90% of his work, and even his worst is wittier than most comedies, so I come by my love naturally, but if I didn't, I'd probably still be a fan just because of his personality and how nice he's been to me and people I know.
