They were surprisingly in tune with a lot of the other precursors, though siting Two Lovers in Lead Actor is great...
ReplyDeleteI aboslutely love that they nominated Jackie Earle Haley, he was just perfect. But I'm quite sad that Reitman was snubbed, I hope it doesn't hurt him in the future.
ReplyDeleteThey don't especially help or hurt anyone. They just tend to be interesting to look at.
ReplyDeleteEcstatic for Anthony Mackie. MAN, he deserves this.
ReplyDeleteTilda FINALLY gets a citation, even if it's a minor one. Ah well, respectable bunch of nominees.
ReplyDeleteMackie is very solid, yes...and agreed.
ReplyDeleteThat's probably the best batch of Best Actress nominees I've seen from any group. I've been thinking for awhile now that that'll be my line-up as well.
ReplyDeleteIt's a good, if unlikely group (Laurent will get in for supporting if she gets in at all, since the Academy votes how it pleases)...
ReplyDeleteFrom looking at all nominations from different stages I've always wondered.
ReplyDeleteDid that movie "The Burning Plain" get unlucky this season? Or it just wasn't picked up by a distributor. One would think Kim Basinger would at least be on peoples's mouths.
The film had distribution and came out in September. It didn't get unlucky, it just was an extremely poor film, and the precursors tend to ignore bad movies. Nothing wrong with you liking it, and her performance, but it didn't go over well at all.
ReplyDeleteThose were the best batch I've seen yet. FINALLY some love for Sharlto Copley and Jackie Earl Haley.
ReplyDeleteThey went crazy for District 9
They sure did like District 9, indeed.
ReplyDeleteThis year is so funny too with the confusingly similar names
ReplyDeleteUp and Up In The Air
Serious Man and Single Man
Julie and Julia and Julia
getting ridiculous
The Burning Plain wasn't all that bad. The inter-connecting storylines might have been too manipulated for effect but I still enjoyed Kim Basinger's perfomance. She's been choosing the wrong roles lately (While She Was Out--barfs).
ReplyDeleteAnyway, Dave I'm also glad District 9 is getting recognition!
If you go by the critical and audience consensus, then yes, it kind of is that bad, but that doesn't mean you can't still like it.
ReplyDeleteWhere's Sandra Bullock? She deserves to be on this list for The Blind Side!!
ReplyDeleteShe's shown up in a lot of places, but this was never going to be the group that would recognize her.
