Don't look for The Lovely Bones to open wide tomorrow...

...as it's been delayed till January 15th, according to this article here. It'll still play in the 3 theaters it's currently in, but those of you waiting to see it will have to wait a little longer.
-Are you still into seeing The Lovely Bones or have the reviews scared you away?

  1. Personally, I can't wait. I saw it at an early screening earlier this month and I personally thought it was dangerously close to being a masterpiece. I think it's a movie some people just don't get and will be rediscovered some time down the road for the gem it really is. But to each their own I guess.

  2. I look forward to seeing as much as I can before the end of the year so I can make my top ten list and personal awards selections. While I didn't think this had potential, I still had hopes I'd be impressed with Stanley Tucci. This really bugs me because now I have to wait even longer to finish it up.

  3. Understandable, though the movie just didn't work for me at all...

  4. Damn it all to hell, now I have to wait another two weeks to be thoroughly disappointed?

  5. Personally, I kinda wished I could have waited a few weeks to find out I didn't care for the flick one bit...

  6. It's not for everyone. I guess I just saw something in there others did not. It reminds me of the first time I saw There Will Be Blood and wasn't sure what to think. But the more it was on my mind and more times I saw it, knowing what to expect, I grew to love it, as it's now one of my top 10 favorite films of all time. The Lovely Bones is Jackson doing his post-oscar thing. He doesn't need to prove anything to anyone. He can make the movies he wants to make, the way he wants to make them. I guess it comes down to whether or not someone is on the same page as Jackson so to speak in terms of what he was going for. Not that it flew over anyone's heads for bad reasons, but it's just not a film that's going to work for everyone.

  7. I just felt the execution was poor, but hey, to each their own.

  8. It's funny how the critics hate it, but the public is really seeming to be loving it.

  9. It depends on who you talk to. The public I saw it with was openly hostile to the film, which was bad considering they gave out opinion cards before the film.

About 80% of my friends who have seen it (and granted, this is only New York) have not liked it one bit, and only one person actually said they loved it. I think fans of the book dislike it more than people who come to it naturally, but I think a lot of people are agreeing that something's missing. We'll have a better idea of the public perception of it when it goes wide in Jan...

  10. Never read the book, but saw it the Midnight it opened at Arclight Hollywood. I loved it. That having been said, the person I was with completely hated it.

The pacing is fantastic, I felt like I was holding my breath the entire film. Tucci is brilliant as the pedophile, and Ronan is really great. Weisz has a small roll, but is awesome. Even Wahlberg is good (I didn't know he had much most-boogie talent left).

Still bummed that it wasn't chosen for the wild card round of Academy Idol. It deserved a Top 12 chance. I think the public will really embrace it.

  11. I guess it shouldn't surprise me that we disagree on Lovely Bones though, JM.

If you think that The Fountain, Garden State and Lost In Translation are three of the top 10 films this decade, then we clearly have very different cinematic taste.

  12. To each their own, sir...nothing more subjective than film.

  13. There's never a right or wrong when it comes to taste...somewhere out there, there's even someone who thinks Gigli is a masterpiece.
