  1. City of God looks PERFECT right where it belongs, on top.

  2. Absolutely man. One of the greatest films of the last century if you ask me. But, I'm probably getting carried away.

  3. Keith, how can you possibly make a list without City of God there, I mean it's comple...oh, wait. Haha, just fooling around my man. Good stuff as always.

  4. Both lists look pretty good so far. The only omission I can see, that I would have at least in my top 50, if not top 10 would be Brokeback Mountain.

  5. I made something similar on my blog, so I'll just paste the "tops"

    10. Lost In Translation (2003)
    9. Amores Perros (2000)
    8. Inglourious Basterds (2009)
    7. There Will Be Blood (2007)
    6. Little Miss Sunshine (2006)
    5. Adaptation (2002)
    4. Vanilla Sky (2001)
    3. Synecdoche, New York (2008)
    2. The Fountain (2006)
    1. Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind (2004)

What can I say, I'm just a Charlie Kaufman fan. You may be wondering what Vanilla sky's doing there, but it just touched me. The ending and the music really got to me, though I'm aware that it is a flawed movie.

    Any thoughts?

  6. MichaelQ, your list is consistent. I respect that, a ton.

I don't see any of those - while I may disagree with more than a few - not fitting in together.

    Solid work.

    Go see City of God.

  7. I saw it. I agree it's great, it was up there, I considered it for the top ten, but it was the last one to fall out, so I guess that puts it into eleventh place. I surely can see why it's so liked and praised, but the only reason I didn't put it into the pot 10 is because it didn't quite speak to me, but i really respect the picture. I mean, the cinematogrpahy is just amazing and so is the atmosphere created. I will absolutely watch it another time, just to make sure that I didn't miss on something.

  8. Gr8 to see u wrnt hesitant about placing a foreign film on top. Seeing Let the Right one In mentioned made my day.
U better have included it as well Clayton...just kidding.

  9. How bizarre is it that The Fountain is getting so much love on the Decade lists?

It bombed at the box office (10M domestic, 35M budget) and wasn't really loved by critics (51% at RT).

If it shows up on the next two lists, then I'll be really confused. I'll admit Mansell's score is amazing, though.

  10. Nice list, I tend to agree with it more than Joey's but that's just me.

    Mine would be

    1. The Lord of the Rings Trilogy
    2. There Will Be Blood
    3. The Dark Knight
    4. The Road
    5. Memento
    6. The Hurt Locker
    7. Pan's Labyrinth
    8. Avatar
    9. Brokeback Mountain
    10. Munich

I definitely agree that Christopher Nolan is THE filmmaker of the decade.

  11. I'm glad that you guys appreciated my list. This was a great decade for foreign films, so I had the feeling that a chunk of my favorite films would be from other countries.

As for the Fountain, I thought the story was solid, and it was visually stunning. I could see how others thought it was convoluted, but it was certainly a thinking man's moving. That's not to say that people dismissed it because they don't think, but that it may have come off as pretentious.
