A few more top 10 lists drop in for our judgment!

First up we have the list that Peter Travers of Rolling Stone has put together:

  1. Precious
  2. Up in the Air
  3. The Hurt Locker
  4. An Education
  5. Up
  6. Where the Wild Things Are
  7. A Serious Man
  8. District 9
  9. (500) Days of Summer
  10. The Messenger
And here's IndieWire's Anne Thompson with hers:

  1. Bright Star
  2. A Serious Man
  3. A Prophet
  4. Up
  5. Red Cliff
  6. Summer Hours
  7. Coraline
  8. The Hurt Locker
  9. Up in the Air
  10. An Education
-I tend to side more with the Travers list personally, but both definitely have their merit...thoughts?

  1. annes seems more like a personal list while travers(my favorite critic) seems more like an oscar tailored list(especially seeing as the only 4 star reviews hes given this year were for UP and Where the Wild things Are so why arent they the top 2?)

  2. indeed, that's a bit odd, but it happens...I personally try to keep a running order going throughout the year so I have an idea where things stand, but that's just me...

  4. Fair enough...though don't be mad at me if I have Wild Things at 6...(it's higher than that right now, but I've still got about a dozen potential laden films to see this month)

  5. Maybe he's seen it again since his initial review or has changed his mind a bit the more he thinks about it.

I for one had Taken as one of my favorite films. Then I rented it. It's fun, and bad ass, but was ultimately more of a pleasant surprise than the masterpiece I thought it originally was :)

  6. Travers list is pretty snoozy. Love Anne's list, and from what i've seen i think mine will be very similar

  7. Just didn't have any out of nowhere picks that I was hoping for barring (somewhat) WTWTA. I agree with most of his choices, i'm not denying their quality. I was just expecting a more abstract list I guess. Like in Anne's, Red Cliff was a really out of nowhere pick if you ask me, that's what I was expecting in Travers.
