I'm happy to see Funny People and Adventureland show up, two films in contention for my top 10 list that won't be on many lists, I think...
ReplyDeletethese might not be my first picks, though some are, but i absolutely respect lists that rent trying to mirror the best picture list, and these look like personal choices, good for them
ReplyDeleteIndeed, it's always when it's a true reflection of what you enjoyed most in a year. My list is ever evolving, and I'm fairly confident that when it comes out next month it'll be 10 films that I liked more than anything else this year, regardless of their Oscar prospects...
ReplyDeleteafter reading these lists and seeing the nbr and dc critics list am I crazy for thinking UP may have some shot at a best picture win? especially with the new voting system
ReplyDeleteI think you want to keep an eye on the LA film critics, they gave Best Picture to WALL-E last year, so it'll be interesting to see if they follow suite with Up...
ReplyDeleteMan, they really love their animated/mixed media films.
ReplyDeleteI thought the first half hour of UP was amazing, but then it fell apart for me.
I'm glad to see some love for Adventureland, a movie I enjoyed immensely. Also, I love that so many animated films are showing up on top ten lists this year.

ReplyDeleteI'm a big fan of Mottola's film as well...
ReplyDeleteI don't think Corliss is much of a fan of animated movies. If only he made it clear by, i don't know, giving his top three slots to animated movies.
ReplyDeleteIm glad to see Adventureland as well--such a shame that it's not getting the recognition it deserves. Personally, I blame it on the marketing campaign.
ReplyDeleteOverall these lists seem to be pretty much a mixed bag--with a lot of supposed heavy-hitters (The Lovely Bones, Nine, Inglourious Basterds) missing.
Interesting, to say the least.
Indeed, it should have been a bigger hit.
