Wow, talk about an interesting list! Could Oscar follow suit? After last years attack of missing The Dark Knight, then extending Best Picture category to 10 films, has this opened the door for Sci-Fi films to finally join the BP race?
ReplyDeleteCould we be looking to see both District 9 and Star Trek join the top ten with Nine and A Serious Man seeming to be losing buzz? Very, very interesting.
I think basically District 9 and Star Trek are competing with a few other films for the final few slots in the Best Pic race, but they just got a nice boost.
ReplyDeleteVery interesting. We get confirmations that Avatar, Hurt Locker, Inglourious Basterds, Precious, and Up in the Air are the five locks, more or less, while Invictus and Education get needed boosts, and Up is looking more and more likely to sneak in. I'm not quite sure what to make of District 9 and Star Trek. Interesting choices, and they're both certainly in the race. But remember that PGA, DGA, and WGA all nominated Dark Knight last year, and it still didn't get in. This is unusual, to be sure, but don't let your guard down. The Academy is still the Academy.
ReplyDeleteYes sir, more or less
ReplyDeleteI have a feeling that District 9 has a better shot at a Best Picture nomination than most people are giving credit. There's a lot of passionate support for it, and not necessarily in the populous way that Star Trek is getting. I can't help but feel this is probably going to make the cut.
ReplyDeleteI'm predicting District 9 right now, but it's still one of those 2-4 films that are on the cusp and could easily not make the cut.
