ReplyDeleteHi Joey!
ReplyDeleteso when u would be closing or making the final predictions? or is already close? (im talking about claytons)
The hurt locker, Bigelow, Bridges, Bullock, Monique, Waltz, Mark Boal/Jason Reitman &
Sheldon Turner... can we say this is it?
Hi Joseph!
ReplyDeleteClayton's Will Win/Should Win article is going to go up the morning of the Oscars, and likely will function as the final predictions. Mine goes up the night before, in case you were wondering.
As for your predix, that seems to be the trend, though The Hurt Locker for Pic and Boal for Screenplay are not totally locked in, but I would expect them to win.
Correction: There will be final predictions going up this week. Likely on Friday night.
ReplyDeleteMy apologies. Blame it on the lack of sleep...
ReplyDeletePerfect! Thank u both ... I will be following closely
ReplyDeleteWe certainly appreciate it!
ReplyDeleteJoey, Can I take the opportunity to ask u about Alice in Wonderland... have you been in one of the screenings? Ive read good to excelents reviews ... of course ur going to post later the review but in case u have seen it can u tell us something about it?
ReplyDeleteI think that this pic, along with shutter island could be the first 2 pics to take 2/10 next year oscar spots...
I actually have not seen it yet, so I can't comment in an educated fashion yet, but it seems to be going over rather well with people so far. I remain skeptical about its Oscar chances outside of some tech categories, but it remains to be seen.

Should Have Been Nominated: Julie & Julia
Original Score:
Will: Michael Giacchino - Up
Should: James Horner - Avatar (I'm honestly looking at the quality of the score itself. I don't care that Horner has won before, I think Avatar far trumped any other mainstream or independent US film score that came out in 2009 -- which isn't saying a lot considering I found Avatar's score to only be a little bit better than average)
Should Have Been Nominated: Ennio Morricone - Baaria (and if we go by awarding those who are due or overdue, he should win as well)
But that's just my two pennies. It's more interesting to me to read others' predictions. Very interesting choices! Some I agree with, some not so much, but as always, to each his/her own. :)
By the way, will we get a preview for films to look out for for the next Oscar Season after this one?
You bet. After the Oscars, I'll be submitting my annual article previewing what to look out for in the upcoming season. Look out for it.
ReplyDeleteAwesome! I love those articles. Looking forward to it!
ReplyDeleteSure thing sir.
ReplyDeleteAnd Myles, don't forget our upcoming Podcast on the same topic!
ReplyDeleteRegarding Keith's Will/Should Win article... I'm totally with you on Sandra Bullock. I don't think she should win this year, but it's because Carey Mulligan and Gabourey Sidibe gave much more deserving performances (Streep was also good, but her movie didn't allow her much range). But I don't think it's fair to say that just because Bullock has made some bad movies that she shouldn't be rewarded now. Look at how many winners never go on to other great works; Halle Berry immediately comes to mind, winning for Monster's Ball and then making trash like Catwoman, Gothika and Perfect Stranger (and her filmography before the win wasn't too impressive either: The Flintstones, Swordfish, BAPS, etc). But she gave an amazing performance in Monster's Ball... should she not be rewarded because of her other films?
