Avatar Day Part 2

Tonight @ 7pm, eastern time, Avatar will be premiering to critics and voting members. In Los Angeles and New York City, as well as other locations around the states, Avatar will finally have viewing eyes on it.

There is an embargo on the screenings so we won't be able to comment on it until it is lifted. (There will be bloggers and critics around that will try to break it as seen HERE.
Keep an ear to the ground as people will be dying to comment. There is a high level of security for the event as they are bagging and tagging cameras and camera phones.

Here's to a (hopefully) a great film experience.

  1. The Hollywood Reporter also broke the embargo, and Mr. Honnycutt seems to think extraordinarily high of the flick: http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/hr/film-reviews/avatar-film-review-1004052868.story

  3. I'm waiting to see what the criticisms are, if any, but suffice to say, this seems to have been at least partially worth the wait.

  4. Well Empire said that the film itself is very good a 4(our of 5) star film but the 3D experience and the visual scale is what makes it so amazing...which is to be expected as thats how it was meant to be seen but like 90% of the people I know won't be seeing it in IMAX 3D so...

  5. Indeed...I've heard from 2 people who just got out of a screening, and it's enthusiastic, so it seems like it's a big player this year...

  8. Remember when I said that I thought people were very much underestimating the potential Avatar has?

I've long believed it's going to be the hit come next awards season in the same way Titanic was - Heavy contender in the very top categories and a heavy contender in the technical awards. Don't know yet about acting or screenplay, but I think Avatar is not going away empty handed come next Oscar season.

  9. whoops, didn't mean to write the word 'season' at the end. I meant it won't walk away empty-handed next oscar ceremony.

  10. In my opinion, it definitely will not be nominated for any acting categories and for screenplay. From what I've read from the reviews, nominations seem likely for cinematography (won't win), editing (maybe win), visual effects (win), sound editing (maybe win), and sound mixing (win). I'm not too convinced about score and song. We're going to have to wait and see if it has any chances at picture and director.
