Summit Entertainment will distribute Roman Polanski's thriller "The Ghost Writer" in North American during the first half of next year.
Summit made the announcement Friday.
Polanski produced the film along with longtime collaborators Robert Benmussa and Alain Sarde. Summit also acted as foreign sales agent for "The Ghost Writer."
North American rights to "The Ghost Writer" were represented by ICM.
Pic centers on a former British Prime Minister, portrayed by Pierce Brosnan, who is holed up writing his memoirs on an island off the eastern seaboard of the U.S. After his aide drowns, a professional ghostwriter -- played by Ewan McGregor -- is sent out to help him finish the book.
Cast also includes Olivia Williams, Kim Cattrall, Jim Belushi, Robert Pugh and Tom Wilkinson. The pic's based on the novel "The Ghost" by Robert Harris, who joined Polanski in penning the adaptation.
Production is set up as a French-German-UK co-production between RP Films 11, Babelsberg Film and Runteam III. Henning Molfenter, Carl L. Woebcken and Christoph Fisser co-produced along with Timothy Burrill.
Polansksi is under house arrest at his chalet in Switzerland since his release on bail last week by Swiss authorities. Polanski, 76, was arrested in Zurich in September on an international fugitive warrant in connection with the 1977 child sex case.
Polanski, Cattrall, Williams and Belushi are represented by ICM.
-Whatever you think of the man, it's good to know the film will see the light of day...thoughts?
exciting!
ReplyDeletealways interesting to see a new movie from a legendary director...
ReplyDeleteI will care about the movie, but not the auteur. I hate to be "that guy", but I'm tired of Polanski's Hollywood-bloc (including actors who know NOTHING of the story) ignoring this.
ReplyDeleteAdrien Brody seemed perturbed during the Pianist-talk (and yes, he deserved all the attention his performance got) when people mentioned Polanski's past.
If it bugs people so much...imagine it happened to you or someone you know...and how you would want it to be looked back upon.
Man, I sound way too conservative/GOP there.
Oh well.
It's a fair argument, as I'm a liberal, but someone who's on path to become a New York City Police Officer, so my feelings on the matter are a little bit complex, but suffice to say, I'm interested in seeing the movie...
